208. Let the Right One In (2008)

Twelve year-old Oskar is a lonely, bullied little boy, until he meets Eli, a mysterious and eccentric girl, who moves in next door. A spate of bloody murders in the town seem to coincide with her arrival with her guardian, a silent older man.

Oskar begins to gain more confidence in Eli’s presence, and when he fights back, injuring his bully, things begin to spiral out of control. But once he discovers Eli’s secret, he may never need to feel afraid again…

A totally new and different addition to the vampire movie genre, Let the Right One In is the antithesis of the weak, stylised Twilight. Eli is bloodthirsty, the film gory and grisly ensuring it is genuinely horrific. A vampire film for grown-ups.
