204. WALL-E (2008)

Little cleaning robot WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter – Earth class) is left on Earth, sorting and compacting the rubbish created by humans, as people left the planet many years ago. When the devastation caused by centuries of trash became too much to handle, they left on gigantic starliners, waiting on a time they could return home.

WALL-E finds a little plant seedling amongst the trash and takes it home. However, a droid searching for life has been sent from the starliner. WALL-E follows the droid, called EVE (Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) and falls in love. When he hands EVE the plant, she prepares to jump back to the ship, but WALL-E hitches a ride back to the ship. However, things aren’t quite right there – something is keen on keeping the truth from the humans there, including the captain.

It’s very cute and WALL-E is an adorable little hero, but ultimately it’s all a bit too worthy and preachy. Excellent animation, but a shame about the over-pushed message.
